Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026. This covers Swoop for Chrome, Swoop for Windows and Linux, and this website.
In short: Swoop collects nothing and sends nothing. There is no Swoop server, no account and no analytics. Your screenshots stay on your computer until you copy or save them yourself.
Swoop for Chrome
- When you click the Swoop button (or press its keys, or use its right-click menu item), Chrome lets Swoop see that one tab. Swoop scrolls it, takes pictures of it and joins them into one image.
- The image is kept in the extension's own storage inside your browser, so the editor tab can open it. Swoop keeps your last 12 captures there and deletes older ones. Removing the extension deletes them all.
- Your capture settings (such as whether to scroll the page first) are kept with Chrome's settings storage. If you have turned on Chrome sync, Chrome may sync them between your own browsers. Swoop never sees that copy.
- Swoop does not read, collect or send the address, contents or text of any page. It asks for no access to websites in advance.
Swoop for Windows and Linux
- When you press Print Screen or choose Capture, Swoop takes one picture of the screen under your pointer and shows it to you. The picture is held in memory only and is forgotten when you close the capture.
- What you copy goes to your clipboard. What you save goes to the folder you chose (Pictures/Swoop unless you change it).
- Swoop keeps a small settings file on your computer with your save folder. It does not connect to the internet.
This website
- The page is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to run and protect the service. See GitHub's privacy statement.
- The page uses no cookies, no analytics and no fonts or scripts from other servers. The theme you pick is remembered in your own browser.
- The star count on the GitHub button comes from GitHub's public API, asked at most once every five minutes. It asks for one number and sends nothing about you or your screenshots.
- The editor demo runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you draw is sent anywhere.
What Swoop never does
- Upload your screenshots or make links to them.
- Sell, share or transfer any data. There is no data to sell.
- Use your data for advertising, credit checks or anything unrelated to taking screenshots.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Swoop is open source, so you can check all of this in the code on GitHub. Questions are welcome as a GitHub issue.
